How To Stay Fit After 40

September 30, 2010

Some people, especially woman, give themselves excuses why they can’t exercise like for example their too old, tired, have to do too many chores on top of many other things and just don’t have the time to exercise. The thing is that we are supposed to exercise and feel even better about ourselves when we start aging, not feel sorry and start puffing and crying about it. If you are worried that your skin and health is not in the best shape, let’s make sure to change that.

Here’s some tips to make you feel younger and healthier even at 40 & plus years old.

Steps To Get Fit At 40+!

1. Try a new sport or activity and stick to it. Try something new or something that you’ve always wanted to try but never got around it. Make time to try sports like basketball, volleyball, soccer, whatever you want and will enjoy! If you don’t enjoy it you know you won’t do it and won’t do it right! You got kids or nieces and nephews, ask them and get inspired. Your 40, not 100 years old. And if you haven’t seen a 100 year old woman bowling, then check this news article on Emma Regis.

2. Get your bodies moving with exercise! You have an activity you want to do every day or so, well exercise should be there with it. One hour of solid hard core workout to build your strength and flexibility will help you move, feel, and even look better. There is no need to go to gym unless you want to meet a guy. Try some home fitness programs like P90X, Turbo Jam, or Slim in 6. All three of these will make you sweat, burn calories and get in shape fast!

3. Elongate your body with yoga. Yoga has many benefits and everyone nowadays is doing it, even celebrities like Demi Moore. Yoga can help you release and lower your stress as well as help ease your lower back pain. Some people sweat by yoga to help them with their insomnia and sciatica. There are different types of yoga so make sure to try a little of everything or find the one that best suits you. In P90X home fitness program, day 4 of the program is all about yoga, which Demi Moore also tried.

4. Tan that face of yours! Now don’t get me wrong, this does not mean to go out in the sun, put oil on your face and bake your face for an hour. Doctors have repeatedly said that 10 minutes of sunshine without sunscreen is needed everyday, but only 10 minutes! Sun is what gives us Vitamin D which will help us with absorbing calcium, and sunny days make us feel a little happier. Remember, if you want that beautiful glowy skin, make sure to protect it with SPF 30 and above and re-apply every 45 minutes and give yourself a ten minute walk to the store without any protection.

5. Your skin needs moisture! Rain or shine, wind or hail, your skin needs to have moisture! Do some research before buying the expensive brands and wasting your good money. There are cheaper and better ways to add moisture to your skin. If you need help, check this site out for some helpful and easy tips:

6. Get a juicer and make some juice! It is hard for some of us to like those weird and tasteless fruits and veggies, but they are healthy and our bodies crave them. The best and healthier way to get some goodness into your body without losing the important vitamins and fibers is buying a good juicer.

7. “Be good to your body, and it will be good to you”. As we get older, our bodies change and we can’t eat and drink the same way we used to be able to in our early 20s. If you want to be living a long and healthy life, lose the juicy stake for a delicious and healthy turkey burger. Lose the chocolate chip ice cream and change it with a colorful, healthy bowl of fruits. Add more fruits and veggies that are in rich deep purple color like berries. They are full of antioxidants which help reduce the signs of ageing. Take one step at a time and your body will thank you for it.

8. Sleep! This is not a secret, just a plain fact. Your body needs sleep to help you function properly during your day. With lack of sleep you will feel tires, all the aches and pains, as well as increase your moodiness. To help you go to sleep faster and better, be more active during your day, exercise and eat right!

9. Stay away from the fridge and your secret stash of goodies at night! Heavy meals and dinners before bed can lead to heartburns and upset stomachs so try to make it light and healthy. Also note that late eating will take extra time to ‘come out’.

10. Find a buddy. If you think that you will not be able to stick to these few simple rules and tips, find a buddy to do them with. With someone else is the same boat as you, you will be able to relate and support one another. Finding an active and motivating partner is even better, you know you can’t mess up there.

So if you think your age is making you go downhill, think again. By keeping active and eating healthy, you will live longer, healthier, less doctor visits and your body will be glowing and renewed again. There are hundreds of ways to keep active, find the one way that will suite you and keep up with it. Hey, it’s never too late to get your health on track and enjoy life again!
